Asynchronous Work

Asynchronous work is a style of work that minimizes the reliance on real-time communication. It is mostly practiced in remote environments and it provides a lot of benefits in flexibility and efficiency compared to the traditional synchronous mode of work. Establishing asynchronous work requires a combination of communication practices, tools, and a supportive team culture. To make it effective, we keep things simple. At Kiwee, we have up-to-date documentation, collaboration tools, clear expectations, meetings kept at a minimum, and a culture of autonomy where team members are encouraged to solve problems independently. For us, asynchronous work also involves stepping away for a few hours, taking a peaceful walk to think and find solutions for our tasks.

Also, when the communication channel is asynchronous, and an immediate response is not required, the individual team members are less likely to get distracted and “lose the flow”. A really important benefit is an improved work-life balance and completing your own tasks without interruption.
